The Black Belt Championships

Posted on The Black Belt Championships

The Black Belt Championships has had quite a history. Wade Nelson and Steve Schultz directed the first Texas Karate League tournament as the Roy Kurban Invitational and and changed it to the Black Belt Championships in 2013. Master Nelson was successful in continuing the tradition of a well managed tournament and his first event under the Texas Karate League was April 27, 2007 and named the Roy Kurban Invitational tournament. Today, known as the Black Belt Championships, it is the same well known and directed tournament that preceded its history.

Master Nelson is an Executive Director to the Texas Karate League and responsible for the beautiful trophies you receive at the director tournaments among many of the other regular tasks needed in keeping the tournaments running smoothly.

Every year this tournament creates a beautiful, full color program for their event. They offer advertising in this program as well as the opportunity for schools to highlight their top competitors. If you are interested in advertising in this program, please go to The American Black Belt Academy’s Program Submission page by clicking here. If you have questions regarding this program, please feel free to email Jennifer Hurley at Thank you for supporting the Texas Karate League and we look forward to a wonderful tournament.
